Levees built and reinforced last week break flooding farms and ruining crops.

Last week floods covered southern Wisconsin and Eastern Iowa.  This week there isn’t much good news either.  Today more levees have failed to keep in water flooding thousands of acres of farms.

Corn, soy beans, and livestock have been completely lost in areas in Iowa where the levees failed.  Some of the levees have actually breached and others have had water flow over the top.

Having the levees break is terrible news for the poeple near the levees and for people that need those crops but it is actually a little bit of good news for people on the Mississippi south of Iowa.  People in Illinois right now are doing everything they can to prepare for the flood that is emminent and with the levees up north allowing water out there is less to flood down south.

Citizens and members of the National Guard are feaveroishly filling sand bags and placing them in hopes to tame some of mother nature’s rath.  One of the soldiers that had served in Iraq was asked how it was different to serve domestically and his response?  “Sand is sand, we have a job to do.”  Take every chance you get to thank a soldier!
